Joseph Pilates designed a way to strengthen patient's weak muscles by
utilizing the frame of hospital beds. Today, this concept takes the
form of the "Reformer," the most popular piece of equipment used in
modern Pilates training. This exercise machine has a sliding carriage
that includes a foot bar, head and shoulder rests, and arm and leg
pulleys. Resistance on the machine is controlled by color-coded
springs.
Most of the Center's Pilates instructors have completed a 4-month
course that qualifies them to teach Pilates Reformer classes. Our
members benefit by having more options for taking advantage of this
excellent exercise system. Working in the Pilates Reformer Studio
offers exciting benefits that include innovative fitness techniques
and skills.
The body's core is the focus, with fluid movements expanding the
workout to the entire frame. This is ideal for improving neuromuscular
coordination, flexibility, and balance. (Hey, it might actually
improve your golf game!) This formula also can help heal and prevent
certain injuries related to the spine through systematically
strengthening, stabilizing, and stretching.
